Hello, I recently got permanently banned for listing a « counterfeit » item, I tried appealing it with providing the serial number, pictures of the tag and the invoice from Farfetch and i got a generic reply that decisions are final and I cannot get any more appeals. Vinted is my main source of income as a college student and I have found it to be much better than Grailed and Vestiaire and Depop. I tried creating on another macbook a new account with icloud hide my emails and with paid different phone number and yet i still got permanently banned.
I now think of creating a new gmail account with a friends phone number. Opening a new bank account. And using a different adress and name. Yet my questions are:
If i used it on the app before, can i wait time, delete the app or use vpn on the phone to log in again. (I might get a new device if the issue is with that)
For the macbook should I use a whole new browser like firefox or its fine just deleting the history and logging in again. (I have a rotating IP adress at my home wifi)
Lastly my question is since on my previous account I had logged in on Chrome and Safari and App, which one is safe to use again aswell as which network is safe to use again as I have logged in on both my home wifi and on my 5g
So, to create a new Vinted account when you already have one that has been banned, you need to take the following precautions (as far as I know):
On computer: If Vinted sees that a new account is using the same computer as a banned account, it bans it immediately. And Vinted identifies your computer in 2 ways.
A - with cookies
B - with a program that looks at your browser’s « digital fingerprint » (which browser, screen size, sound/bluetooth/wifi options, time zone, and dozens of other things - you can test this here: https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/).
In theory, using the IP address to identify you is forbidden Conclusion: you must at least clear your cookies or use private browsing. The ideal is indeed to use a new browser (Brave for example) if you don’t want to change computers
On phone: In my opinion, even by uninstalling, the Vinted app leaves data in the device’s memory that allows Vinted to say « this phone used account X before, and this account X has been banned ». Conclusion: I think you must at least reset your phone (this erases the memory). The best thing is to change it entirely, but I’m not sure it’s essential.
But basically, changing your IP (via a VPN) is not enough because Vinted is not supposed to identify your account in this way.
This subject intrigued me and I did some legal research (old habits die hard ). I know I’m a bit outdated, but there are legal fundamentals that fortunately remain applicable for now. Therefore, no one has the authority to perform an identity search using an IP address. Except for the police or gendarmerie, upon request from the public prosecutor’s office and after authorization from the investigating judge(s). If Vinted uses our IP addresses to sanction us, there are grounds for a complaint. Did I understand the subject correctly?
Identity verification is indeed strictly regulated
But there’s no need to go that far just to say « I’m blocking access for this IP. The user’s identity doesn’t matter. » And in that case, GDPR applies.
But all of this is technical for not much gain. Basically, just understand that:
IPs from large VPN networks (Nord VPN and others) are often compromised and detected as VPNs => Vinted throws up captchas and is very wary of them
Overall, changing your IP is easy. Changing your computer is less so => So Vinted rather tries to set cookies or identify the computer via its digital fingerprint
It might be a layman’s question: how to prevent Vinted from placing cookies (I think it’s impossible otherwise you can’t use the platform?) or detecting the computer (maybe that’s more feasible)
Hello, in my case they blocked my account for counterfeiting with an original product. I have tried to complain through the app and by email, and all responses have been negative.
I remembered that I bought that same item on Vinted, and now I have written to them claiming the purchase of my products to appeal that I bought that product on the same app, having already passed the authenticity check.
If I understand correctly, you had a block when selling an item that was allegedly counterfeit? But you bought this item on Vinted? with an authenticity check?
It seems so crazy and illogical to me that I prefer to ask you again to be sure it’s not a misunderstanding on my part.
I bought the item on Vinted, I know it wasn’t a fake because I know Tous items and I took it to a store to have it verified. But the seller didn’t send me the receipt.
At the store they confirmed it was original, but no matter how much I’ve sent them photos of stitching, inner labels, they’ve blocked me.
That’s why I’m asking Vinted to send me the purchase receipt from their platform.
You just need to, if you want to have 2 accounts, make sure they share neither cookies (clear them regularly) nor a digital fingerprint (use 2 different browsers or ideally even 2 different devices).
