Yep, I don’t know what needs they’re talking about, but it’s definitely not mine ![]()
It’s more designed for them to line their pockets.
And the worst thing is that 50 free ads in total, from what I understand, isn’t even a monthly package.
If that’s really the case, it will kill their system because ordinary people who have reached this quota will never pay €3.99 to sell everyday items at low prices.
I really don’t understand their strategy for this one.
They are doing a Rakuten. They are losing ground to Vinted so they are trying to compensate for the losses by charging their users more. This can work at first, on Rakuten it was also done sneakily so we had to realize the rip-offs, but in the medium term it will drive users away. For now, only eBay has not fallen into the trap (but they have a different international standing).
The other thing to clarify is about private individuals. I read that there were things for them too but I can’t find the official info.
This only concerns professionals; private individuals will still be able to sell as much as they want.
I don’t see the point in continuing to sell as a non-subscriber Pro. I might as well close my account. 50 listings aren’t enough to have an impact on their algorithm. I’ll test for a few months, until all my listings come up for renewal. I’ll keep the most expensive ones and will review all my prices and create bundles.
If it’s not conclusive by the end of the year, I’ll stop my Pro Leboncoin account. There’s no way I’m paying either the subscription or the individual listing fee beyond 50 ads, in addition to the 13% commission.
I have no guarantee of selling more by paying!
try ads where you group categories of items, it would allow you to put a lot up for sale while staying with 50 ads
So that’s good, but what’s the point for professionals to keep their pro accounts at this price? I think many will create a personal account again.
And again, it’s not clear, everything is vague without precise information. Personally, it doesn’t give me confidence, besides, LBC represents less than 10% of my sales, so I’ll wait and see..
LBC was bought by an American pension fund. Their communication is pure Newspeak.
They have cleaned up the site, adopted a commercial strategy that will hurt some, and I think adopted a clear position. Basically, they are going to transform everything. Their idea, I don’t know it, because we don’t have internal data. They also have to deal with European legislation and global issues. Maybe a way to establish a « local » presence and then reorient, etc.
Remember that users don’t care, it’s a short-term vision. But as in everything, there are winners and losers. Adapt or die (economically).
The model is changing, you have to adapt. The problem is that models change every 3 months. That’s why you have to try to project yourself, guess trends by doing prospective analysis, anticipate and look long-term, develop another activity, other alternatives, make efforts. Stagnation is regression.
The site that works well is Whatnot, a different vision of sales.
Are you talking about Whatnot, which I didn’t know about?
At first glance, a site that promotes sales « live, » where the seller waves the item for sale in front of the camera while giving a sales pitch. Extremely time-consuming, unless you have a stock of similar items (absolutely not my case). And then you have to have the skill of a
Yes, Whatnot is indeed live selling.
As for the rest, everyone can think what they want ahah, but I think the target audience isn’t the same as on Vinted and not all types of products can be sold live… I’m thinking of books typically
or even toys.
Live auction selling also works well for collections like Pokémon cards.
Yes, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll group quite a few items together. I’ll have fun between the lots on Leboncoin remodeling, deleting the individual sales on Vinted. In short, long-term occupation!
Yes, partly bought by Blackstone. And buybacks are always a short-term and long-term reshuffle. It has to cost as little as possible and bring in as much as possible. Layoffs, simplified site, bots and AI to manage as much as possible, etc.
If we stick to the idea that Leboncoin is a platform for individuals and that the USA is number one in second-hand sales (in the US, you can sell directly from home, on your property as often seen in movies/series), having control over the French version of second-hand sales may be part of their plan, by charging professionals as much as possible to discourage them and make them leave the site, then trying to expand to neighboring countries like Belgium, Spain, etc.
Once, while discussing with a guy from Leboncoin who wanted to sell me their annual subscription, he had mentioned the possible European expansion of Leboncoin, notably with Mondial Relay which already has a foothold there. To be seen if this will be the case in the long term.
They contacted me, not really my thing. I already knew the concept with Vogt. On the other hand, eBay has just launched into it as well and they are going all out on it.
I see it as another layer to use, in addition. Having followed several live streams, there is everything, you don’t have to show yourself, some love it, like at fairs, playing music.
I find it fun, you can create your own universe, a trademark, it requires a little preparation, when you know your items it goes quickly, it allows you to sell a lot of items at once, many use it for destocking.
I know that some people do very big numbers there, some are even employed by companies to do just that, one sale per day. You have to build an audience.
For me, it’s perfectly in line with evolution and the times.
It’s safe, fast, no messaging etc. another form of selling, cumulative.
And everything can be sold there. I will study the question in detail. you need a universe, constant stock, regularity.
Many big sellers don’t leave Vinted, but use it as a secondary activity after having learned the ropes on it: some move to a physical store, others to Whatnot, others to wholesalers, others in luxury, others with their own site, others with marketplaces. all while keeping Vinted. Multiply income streams, so as not to lose everything if you get banned.
I find it great for books, on the contrary. (I’ve already sold some, I used to buy them by the pallet).
on ebay or another site?
Vogt yes.. they had big communication problems etc.
And why are you not interested? What are the negative points according to you?
On the contrary, I find it great for books. (I’ve already sold some, I used to buy them by the pallet).
I don’t have such volumes
.
But indeed, if you are into « new books at a reduced price », meaning titles that have been withdrawn from distribution, including due to publisher bankruptcy, you might have pallets to sell off. And then whatnot is suitable.
I agree, so that’s something to explore, right? How to source in bulk, then sell on whatnot (depending on your comfort level).
Small items can be placed on a small table or a white presentation surface, that’s enough, no need to show yourself.
The hardest part is sourcing, building a small community, and thinking about the image you want to project, the tone, just like for a restaurant, for example.
This is just the beginning, almost everything still needs to be done. The Chinese have been doing video presentations of their products for sale for a while now. We can even imagine (and I think it’s already happening) that instead of photos, we’ll have videos on marketplaces for product presentations. And we can even imagine that the videos will be made by AI for product presentations (here, you probably need volume for the same item. (Most ads are made like this now))
I signed up for whatnot but haven’t taken the plunge yet, too bogged down with Vinted issues. Since I do try-on photos, I could imagine live sessions with try-on demonstrations, but I would need a second person… I’m not Arturo Brachetti!
The idea of selling live in pairs, I find it excellent, a duo, like in the theater, I am sure there is something to be done by finding a special way, its own identity and personality, that is the big advantage of this interactive method. The biggest job to do is right there. it can be a set, a process (why not change for each item), a distinct universe. so it’s not for everyone, but some will have a great time and therefore, earn a good living, and it’s already happening, I know some people make €2,000/day (obviously that’s revenue, but even a 2x markup leaves a good margin).
In a world where we talk to each other less and less, where everything is automated, where people scroll through cold ads, this will catch on. It’s like the difference between an ad in a magazine and a TV ad, or a modern infomercial.
They contacted me on Instagram.
Why am I not interested? I can summarize it with one image ![]()

More seriously, to start with an important point: at some point I can’t do everything. And it’s not all rosy either, a friend does it and it requires a lot of preparation. And then, quite simply, it’s something I don’t feel like doing, I don’t have that knack for it.
