Return package to seller but sale has been finalized

I need your help and advice regarding a transaction in which I am the seller.

When my package arrived at the pickup point, the buyer had an issue with their availability to collect it. On the last day of storage at the pickup point, I received 2 contradictory messages. One confirmed that the package had been collected by the buyer, and the other announced that the package would be returned to me. I immediately contacted the buyer to ask if they had indeed received it. I received their negative response.

And a few days later, I did receive the package back. But on Vinted, the transaction had already been finalized, I received the payment, and an automatic review.

This is the first time I’ve encountered such a situation. Have you ever had a similar case?

Of course, I contacted the buyer again to find out what happened on their end. For them, since they couldn’t collect the package, they were simply waiting for a refund. They were surprised that I had already received the payment (they didn’t see that the payment had already been debited from their account).

I have already reported this situation to Vinted. But so far, I have received a simple copy-paste response (L'acheteur a un problème, mais la commande est finalisée | Vinted).

If they do not take the item in question, I want to put it back on sale. That’s why I want to understand what happened and if there is a way to save my buyer… I don’t think they will pay the price a second time.

Here is the situation. I would like to have your opinion, remarks, advice… please.

Occasionally, I receive a package back for an item that was paid for through the system. I would say this happens about 1 out of 500 times. I admit that unless the buyer contacts me, I don’t take any action…

You reassured me that it happens from time to time. So I’ll ask them to take action with Vinted. Honestly, I’m embarrassed to have received the payment and the return at the same time.

And from what I’ve read on this forum, if I received the 2 contradictory messages because one (delivery confirmation) was sent by the delivery service after a few days and the second (return notification) was sent at the time of printing the return label…? I received them on the same day because the interval between these 2 messages was very short, I assume.
