PRO tell us about your summer: revenue drop, or not? your feedback

In that case, you might as well ban the category for pros. Or else they clearly give a % not to exceed.

There, we see accounts being struck with a few tens of listings of new items and others having no problem with hundreds, even thousands of new items. Not to mention the workarounds by listing them as « good condition » to resell Shein.

And personally, I’m asking for them to ban it. That way, no more problems and customers who want new items will return to eBay and Rakuten. At least everyone has their specialty, and no more confusion.

If we put ourselves in their shoes, it’s more skillful to give a general instruction than to set a percentage. It’s pragmatic to leave room for judgment. And no doubt giving a figure would leave the door open to all sorts of optimizers who would invoke the rules, etc.

For my education, as I’m not a big consumer of clothes, would you have an example of an account with thousands of new items?

More peculiar, in my opinion, is the recent trend of reselling Shein or equivalent items, in dropshipping mode. What’s peculiar in the few cases I’ve seen is that it was through small accounts, with, let’s say, 100-200 reviews and shops with about fifty products. One gets the impression that these are real accounts to whom a dropshipper would offer the placement of about ten products but no more than one at a time.

No worries, their T&Cs are successful for that. In the absolute, anyone can be banned overnight. We had scrutinized them with a colleague and in summary it’s « Heads I win, tails you lose ».

I don’t follow clothes in the absolute. These accounts were mentioned to me in private conversations and indeed there is some serious stuff.

In my field of toys, yes there are accounts with 10,000 listings, including thousands of new items, and they have been around for years. Particularly among the Italians and Dutch who have very large accounts (but also some French ones). Some don’t even bother to take their own photos.

I even have a competitor who is doing very well, he gets his supplies from one of my wholesalers and lists absolutely all the references available on the site. However, in the listing, he states that it is deliverable within 15 days. Basically, he waits for people to buy before ordering. And he sells the surplus on two other private accounts. All with photos from distributors, etc. …

Hello,

I’m not a pro, but I’ve also noticed a cycle, particularly before July. I didn’t pay much attention to my account because I had very little time, so I posted or reposted infrequently and randomly. During those few weeks, I had periods where I made several sales in a few days (in addition to an explosion of offers that I rarely accepted) and then things calmed down again (even in terms of offers).
Basically, I felt like I was very invisible at certain times and then became visible at another time, without doing anything in particular. As if there was a rotation in account visibility.
These are just impressions, I don’t know if they are real or not.

In July, I can’t say if this is confirmed because I had time to take care of Vinted and was very active. So a decent sales level for me.

Thank you Delphes for this feedback! It’s interesting to read that even without activity (few republications/publications) you had this impression of a cycle. If I understand correctly, in July you felt this « cycle » less?

In July, I was active: publications and/or republications every day. I think I sold quite a bit for my closet and my status as an individual: 4 to 5 sales per week. I didn’t notice any cycles. Maybe because I was very active.

In April-May-June, a period during which I was very inactive on Vinted, I wouldn’t sell for a long time and then suddenly, for a few days, I would make 3 or 4 sales, then a big slump again. And this didn’t necessarily correspond to the few times I did a few republications, just so as not to fall into the depths of the site. It was 2 weeks without a sale and boom! 3 or 4 packages to prepare in 2 days.

However, I did notice a « weird thing » at the beginning of the week. My recommendations didn’t match the items I usually look for, nor my favorites. This lasted a few days and then everything returned to normal. Now, my recommendations match items related to my interests.

During these few days, I also noticed a drop in views and favorites on my closet, and this returned to normal afterward. I don’t know if it’s related.

I have the impression that the algorithm isn’t working properly, as if it sometimes overheats and starts doing anything.

So since last Thursday, it’s as if everything has magically unlocked. I’m getting back the activity I had before. Not just sales but also subscriptions, offers, inquiries, etc… whereas I felt like my shop had completely stopped. But the essential, which is sales, well it’s simple, in 5 days in August I’ve almost made my total revenue for June, which is totally abnormal because traditionally June is not a bad month but August is (and what’s more, in the summer I’m less invested with holidays, kids, etc…).

You’re so lucky! On my end, it’s still dead calm… Never seen anything like it. I have a lot of favorites and views, more than in June and July, but almost no sales, whereas before I was making several sales a day. Haven’t you done anything special to change that?

And do your articles appear again in the search bar when you use very specific keywords? Because mine still don’t, I’m thinking the problem surely comes from there…

Yes, everything seems to be running as before for a few days now, I feel like I’m not on the same site anymore.

On the other hand, yes, I’m lucky, but will it last? I’m still not very confident given the roller coaster of the last few months. But now, this is the first time in months that the platform seems to be stable.

Hello!

I’m not a pro and I’m not into toys, but on the contrary… it’s been dead calm for several days! I had offers this weekend that I accepted but no one followed through with a purchase. This calm comes just after a period where I sold quite a bit AND I deleted sold items on Vestiaire Collective.

Why is summer not great??

Are you advertising on eBay?

The last few months have been difficult. On vacation in July, I was much more present and was able to make numerous sales, but at what cost!

Very aggressive buyers asking for 40% discounts. I had to accept selling some items at a reduced price to generate some volume, and I would say that 75% of the sales I was able to make relate to new items put up for sale during the week. On the other hand, favorites are coming in, but offers are always fewer. To give you an idea, I was getting at least 5 offers per day 2 weeks ago, today I would be lucky to get that many.

By increasing the number of items for sale, I was able to increase my sales. But I’m not sure if all the work with photos, publishing, etc. is really worth it.

Because people don’t want to buy from me

No, jokes aside, it’s always slow. Generally, I have a slump around the end of June that lasts until mid-August (although I’m happy with the past week). I’m in a sector that has a big seasonal peak at the end of the year; basically, I do half of my annual revenue between All Saints’ Day and Christmas. And I sell completely non-essential items. So it doesn’t surprise me that people have other leisure budget priorities in the summer. And also, with the kids on vacation, I have much less time to take care of it.

No, nothing special. Besides, I’m not a « big » seller on eBay (though everything is relative), it’s a good supplement. But it’s more like the big eBay of 10 years ago.

Moreover, Mondial Relay has increased its prices for international shipping, and that already hurts me on eBay.

I’ve been a pro since September 2023 and I’ve definitely seen a big drop in activity since then, with cycles in 2025, dips and peaks like this week.

I also have the impression that as soon as I transfer money from my wallet to my bank account: a low cycle follows…

For new items: it’s almost 80% of my turnover, I do consignment selling on the side which allows me to continue selling second-hand items… But I can clearly see that buyers prefer new items…

and yes, that’s the Vinted paradox. Many people (including professionals) fall for those who sell new items, but the reality is that many customers are on Vinted to find bargains, not out of ecological conviction to buy second-hand. So if they can get new items cheaply, they’ll take them without any problem.

Hello, consignment shops, are you able to sell and is it satisfying?

I did the test this month and indeed the same article, same photo had many more views on my personal account than it had for several weeks on my professional account. So today I alternate, when a product drops, I try to sell it on my personal account while declaring the sale.
