Hello,
As I am new to Vinted, I would like to know if you accept return requests for an item because the size does not fit the buyer?!
Someone in Italy asked me to accept the return of a pair of shoes because the size did not fit them. Initially, based on Vinted’s regulations stating that there is no obligation to accept a return for convenience, I had refused, asking them to resell it, especially since they haggled at length and were determined to have it, but the person insisted, telling me that they preferred to be refunded. I ended up accepting the return, expressly asking them to send it back to the drop-off point where I had deposited it. But then, I realized that they sent it in the opposite direction of where I live, meaning on the other side of Paris. With traffic jams and the work being done for the Olympic Games, it will take me at least two hours to get there and two hours to return to pick it up.
I work all week, including Saturdays (the drop-off point is closed on Sundays), so I am not going to waste half a day of work to retrieve an item sold for 30 euros.
The buyer told me that they had no choice and that it was Vinted who registered this drop-off point.
In short, I told them that I would not go to pick it up!
What happens in this case?
And above all, for next time if I am faced with this, what happens if I refuse a return request because the item does not fit or is not liked?
Thank you for your help and advice!
I don’t really have any advice for your situation, but you could offer to buy back the item at your expense, so basically, she relists the item in question at the price she bought it for (without fees).
Ex: if she bought the item for €30, she relists it for €30, she puts that it’s reserved in your name, you buy it back and you can choose the pickup point you want.
In your suggestion, I should pay the shipping costs. I don’t see why I should since the item is as described. If it’s to impose this kind of hassle, the buyer would be better off shopping at Zara and making as many returns as they want
…
It seems to me that this kind of abusive request is contrary to the objective of the second-hand market, and it’s particularly annoying for private sellers.
That being said, I had offered to relist the item for the buyer, reminding her that if we deduct the outgoing and return shipping costs, which she will not be refunded, she will get back 20 euros and not 30.
She insisted on returning it.
I should have simply refused!
You should have indeed refused, at worst it would have earned you a negative review to which you could have responded. However, be careful, if you do not collect your package it will be returned to the buyer and she will be refunded. Unfortunately, it is Vinted who chooses the return Relay point and we have no choice. If it is really far away, do not hesitate to send a message to Vinted explaining the situation, for my part when this happened to me they refunded me.
Thank you very much for the advice![]()
For the returns, I’ll know for next time.
I only accept returns for reasons authorized by Vinted.
The real risk comes from bad-faith buyers. They know you can’t return an item just because it doesn’t fit or you don’t like it. So they invent false reasons (« the item smells bad, » « the color is not as described »…) or even damage your item to open a dispute. You should know that when in doubt, Vinted always sides with the buyer.
The smell cannot be an acceptable excuse.
For the color, it is essential to specify it well (for example, a « chocolate » bag may look black in some photos, but it is brown – this has already happened to me).
As for the degradation, it is debatable. Vinted requires photos at the time of sale in cases of disputes. You just need to send Vinted the photos from the listing or those saved in Clemz as proof.
the post is a bit old but if it can help
Don’t be mistaken, the « weird smell » was accepted by Vinted as a reason for return. I was the seller, and I was outraged because the buyer had invented this smell.
My photos are always taken in natural light, and I make sure the colors are very accurate. Only once did a buyer say the color wasn’t exactly as in the photo. Vinted sided with her without requiring proof.
In both cases, the items were returned to me, but in a slightly worse condition than before.
You should know that since the buyer pays Vinted (the « buyer protection, » it’s clearly stated!), Vinted sides with the buyer at the slightest doubt.
ok
I’m lucky, I’ve had the smell case twice and I won
for the colors, I rely on the color in the color field when creating the item
