Vinted "anti-duplicate" campaign - status report (19.03.2026)

Hello everyone!

As some of you know, Vinted launched about a week ago an account restriction campaign targeting ads published as « duplicates ». Affected wardrobes are restricted for 3 days (usually) during which they can no longer publish new ads.

The messages received look like this:

Text: Some of your ads have been identified as duplicates, which goes against our Catalog Rules. As a result, we have had to implement a restriction: you will not be able to add items for 3 days, and one or more of your ads have been removed.

or even

Text: We have reason to believe that one or more listings you have posted already exist in our catalog, which is against our Catalog Rules and our Terms and Conditions. As a result, we have had to implement a restriction: you will not be able to add items for 3 days, and one or more of your listings have been removed.

We are opening this post to provide you with our initial findings and to gather more information from people who have been affected to understand what is happening.

Our initial conclusions:

1) There are 2 types of duplicates for Vinted: « wardrobe » duplicates and « catalog » duplicates
Vinted has clearly decided to combat duplicates by penalizing anyone it considers to have knowingly created one. But as the 2 messages above show:up_arrow:, Vinted distinguishes between 2 types of duplicates:

  1. Wardrobe duplicates: where the Vinted message says « Some of your ads have been identified as duplicates (…) ». In this case, Vinted considers that the recently published/republished ad already exists within this same wardrobe.
  2. Catalog duplicates: where the Vinted message says « one or more listings you have posted already exist in our catalog ». In this case, Vinted considers that the recently published/republished ad already exists in another Vinted wardrobe.

2) Catalog duplicates are attributable to either the seller or Vinted
If Vinted’s restriction message clearly states « one or more listings you have posted already exist in our catalog », it means you have been flagged for a catalog duplicate.
In this case, there are 2 possibilities:

  1. Vinted is right: you published the same ad (identical photos) on 2 different wardrobes. You should have modified the photos before republishing the second ad.

  2. Vinted is wrong: it confused your photos with one of the millions of photos already published on Vinted… Vinted’s robots compare photos with each other and can make mistakes (this would not be the first time). We believe that photos with a light background in particular are more likely to cause this kind of error.

In any case, if Vinted is wrong, it’s not your fault… except for avoiding light backgrounds and appealing for Vinted to acknowledge its mistake.

3) Wardrobe duplicates are harder to explain
Several scenarios can occur. A duplicate within the same wardrobe can be due to:

  • A previous duplicate: you had published an item twice at a time when Vinted did not check carefully. Upon republishing, Vinted rechecks the photos and finds the duplicate => penalty

  • A mishandling with a republishing tool like Clemz: we have had a few cases of republishing that stop midway (internet issue or other). This left time for a draft to be created without deleting the original ad. The user publishes the draft => Vinted checks all the photos and finds the duplicate.

Our questions

:backhand_index_pointing_right: If you have been a victim of a Vinted restriction recently: in which case are you? Wardrobe or catalog duplicate?

:backhand_index_pointing_right: We are interested in details about your case (especially photos of the incriminating item) so that we can understand.

Our advice

  1. Contest all restrictions unjustly imposed by Vinted. This is the only way to tell them « your verification bots are misconfigured! I am innocent. » With the volume of complaints, they will see that they are « casting too wide a net. »

  2. If you had a duplicate and fear a new restriction, republish by modifying your photos. Clemz allows you to do this easily with quick modifications (see here) and even the « current modification » which allows for frequent changes (see here)

Hello,

I am a professional on Vinted, banned for 3 days due to catalog duplication. For your information, my photos are authentic and not AI-modified.

I have appealed to Vinted, but I have not yet received a response from them.

1st suspension: poor quality photos = fake

2nd suspension: same photos = fake

I think that’s exactly what happened to me

No, but that’s scary. They’re seriously ill  What’s the next step? Your house in the background of the photo isn’t tidy enough?

Same as you, I got banned for 3 days.

It’s really becoming ridiculous on Vinted. Once I had listed some small Christmas houses, all different, and they deleted 2 for being duplicates even though they were different.

Moreover, now you have to take professional photos, but not too much on a white background, but not too much either. They have to be perfect, but not like in a catalogue.

Plus, bad quality photos, I find the criteria very subjective! If the background is blurred to see the item better, you can get a reprimand!

In short, it’s scary.

Loool yes it’s Brazil! And to make Primark fakes you really have to have no common sense. This AI is stupid. But if the AI is stupid, it’s because its creators are too.

Could we please stay on the topic of the different ban cases? :folded_hands: :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s tempting to complain about Vinted (we could spend all day on it) but let’s stay focused

We will improve this point. I’m releasing a corrected version for early next week :flexed_biceps:

Thank you Clément. But I’m not convinced that Clemz is entirely responsible. You’ll let us know. I have very, very few duplicate or ban issues. Although anything can happen, don’t celebrate too soon. I followed the advice: no AI at all, I go slowly in quantity and time interval on republications, I monitor during republication. I use messages to favorites very little. I must have 5 new items in my entire wardrobe. I noticed that when I push republications, I receive an alert. No forbidden items. I avoid certain brands that I publish on other platforms. What could be interesting is to be able to modulate the delay between each republication. But I am almost convinced that the AI also likes « habits ». Progression should not be too sensitive. I also know now that they have major account agreements with certain sellers. Thanks again for your work because truly, as far as I’m concerned, Clemz is very useful. I did comparative tests and I can say today that there is no comparison.

Hello, for my part I do not use AI, a space of 60 seconds between republications, I do not use messages for favorites, 5 new articles on my dressing as well, I stay close to the PC when clemz works and yet banned for 3 days for catalog duplication.

Are the photos of the item identified as a catalog duplicate on a white background?

Can you confirm that you have never put this item on another wardrobe that belongs to you?

try to space out the republication time more. It takes much more than a minute to actually create an ad on Vinted

I think the spacing time between listings is not at all involved in this duplicate issue.

Vinted really thinks it spots duplicates when it compares listing photos. Waiting more or less will not change anything…

yes a white background on my table, I have never put this item on another dressing room, I have a professional Vinted account and a personal one where I have only put a few items but no jeans.

Good evening, I was just restricted for duplicate catalog entries, and the message clearly states: « We have reason to believe that one or more listings you have posted already exist in our catalog. » So, in fact, perhaps it’s not even an issue during republication. I’m quite disgusted, I had first put my items in drafts to make title and price modifications, and bam, a 3-day restriction… I contested, but the answer is quite clear, the message will only be processed in 120 hours… so well after my restriction ends. Now I just hope that after this they won’t ban me permanently, I’m a professional, it’s my job… Anyway, to be continued. I specify photos on a green background, very identifiable and personal, and no, I have never published this item on another account. I apply between 35/40 seconds between each republication and 10 at most.

Ok, I get the impression that 90% of « catalog duplicates » are in this situation

Could another closet contain an item with the same background?
