Vinted refuses to pay me after a package damaged by the carrier - need advice!

Hello everyone,
I’m coming here because I’m in a really unfair situation with Vinted and I don’t know what to do anymore.

I sold an item that I carefully packaged (bubble wrap, sturdy cardboard, well sealed).
But upon delivery, the buyer told me that the package had arrived in a simple soft envelope, completely different from my original packaging — so the carrier clearly changed the package or damaged it during transit.

The buyer herself acknowledged that the item had been damaged by the carrier. Despite this, Vinted canceled the transaction, refunded the buyer, and refuses to pay me, saying that « my packaging was not sufficient. »
I insisted several times, provided explanations, and even cited their own terms and conditions (which provide for compensation when damage occurs during transport via a Vinted label), but they maintain their decision, saying it is « final. »

I find this scandalous, because I followed the rules, I have proof and messages from the buyer, and yet I am being held responsible for a problem caused by the carrier.

Has anyone here ever had a similar case?
Is there a way to have the case re-examined or to contact a higher department / mediator at Vinted?
Is it worth going through the consumer mediator or the DGCCRF?

Thanks in advance for your feedback or advice, because frankly, I feel completely stuck and it’s extremely frustrating.

Hello,
Welcome to the forum!

Did you exchange with Vinted by email? or directly via the app?

Hello, thank you!

I first chatted with them via the in-app chat and then I switched to email, but still the same result in their response. On another forum, someone told me to report them on Signal Conso, which I will probably do.

Yes, that is indeed an idea.

Sometimes discussions are more « qualitative » by email, but if you are already communicating by email… I don’t know what else to tell you.
Have you tried to take action against the carrier? (hoping it’s not Vinted go )

Hello,

The exact same thing just happened to me for an item of €50. I don’t know if I suspect the carrier or the buyer, but I’m left without the item I sold and without my money. And Vinted says it’s my fault even though I had packed it very well.

Did you win your case and if so, how?

Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, Vinted will never rule in your favor. Your only hope is to pursue the carrier or contact a consumer protection agency. Good luck.

Good evening, thank you for your response, but how is this possible? It’s a big scam, at least Vinted should refund me half, it’s scandalous.
