Hello
Many sellers frequent multiple platforms.
Rakuten is going to cease its operations. I wonder if there will be a buyer. Otherwise, what other platforms will buyers turn to. Perhaps more on eBay??
What is your feeling??
I believe no one has stepped forward, and they are simply shutting down the platform, officially on September 30th.
After that, it’s hard to say where the (regular) buyers will turn.
They will certainly scatter across other platforms depending on the items usually sought, such as Amazon, Cdiscount, eBay, Leboncoin, and Vinted.
Then you have Fnac and Back Market, which are positioning themselves quite well in the refurbished and second-hand market.
There is no buyer for Rakuten, a sign that it was completely dead.
As the platform is old, very old, I think we will first see a lot of sellers disappear who were nowhere else. I know several in my circle who posted listings by simply scanning a barcode.
One of them offered to sell me his stock at a very low price, several thousand items. He is discouraged at the mere thought that he would have to relist them elsewhere, taking photos, etc. Another speaks poor French and is not at all comfortable with Vinted/LBC, where messaging is common.
It’s not easy for these sellers to find someone to buy their stock: by definition, they are offering what they have never managed to sell despite the years…
It’s unfortunate for them, but maybe it’s time for you to strike a good deal, if it’s only books.
And besides, it’s true that these are sales they couldn’t make, so the negotiation would be commensurate ![]()
I’m also discouraged by the handling and sorting effort for stock that I know I’ll have to get rid of 80% of. The purchase price isn’t really the issue. Here, I have a seller who mainly wants to clear out his parking space so he can rent it out, and is therefore looking for a free mover…
For Rakuten, I saw the information, I even asked for my account to be deleted, because I haven’t used it for selling or buying in a very long time, especially their prices, like a 500-page book, recommended price €0.90 and given Vinted… they are losing momentum.
I put my account on vacation while waiting for the closure. I was selling about one item per month. The only appreciable thing was the ease of listing items could be listed.
I redirect the few buyers to LBC. Around 50% follow me there.
hello, stock of what?
I still get sales on Rakuten, unbelievable. Well, I systematically redirect to another site, with a good tracking rate.
The number of listings remaining on my Rakuten account remains a good indicator of dormant stock, with all these listings that haven’t found a buyer in over a year… Still 30% of the total, despite the weeding in the summer…
