Item arrived broken, Vinted won't refund me despite careful packaging

Hello,

I am very angry with Vinted… I sent a pebble character extremely well wrapped in bubble wrap and it arrived broken. The buyer left a note saying the packaging was great.

Vinted just refunded her and told me that my packaging was insufficient and that they would not refund me…

Has this ever happened to you, what should I do? I am gutted… Thanks

Hello,

Let’s not forget that Vinted acts as an intermediary platform and charges for « buyer protection », especially in cases like this.
It is not responsible for damage during transport, but the carrier is indeed responsible.
The buyer was therefore refunded because they are protected, unlike the seller.

In practice, if a package arrives damaged, the buyer reports the problem to Vinted before confirming receipt. Vinted then examines the case (photos of the packaging, the item, etc.), but it’s « Bots » that do this, not humans, so it systematically decides on a refund according to its rules, for the buyer.

Now, for the seller, Vinted should normally file a claim directly with the carrier to obtain compensation.
But Vinted doesn’t do this automatically because it uses negotiated contracts, which makes shipping costs more attractive for sellers than if you went directly through the carrier.

To limit delays and costs, Vinted may choose to refund (or not) according to its own conditions rather than systematically filing a claim with the carrier.

It happens (too often) that Vinted makes no claim to the carrier, simply because the amount involved is less than the administrative cost of a claim or because the contract with the carrier provides for limited or flat-rate coverage.

Once the flat rate is exceeded, or the claim limit is reached, Vinted does not file a claim and does not compensate the seller. These are the defined rules.
It also relies on sellers giving up.

In summary, you are using a platform that has decided on the rules, managed by « Bots », and tasks are handled by programmed automation.
So, either your item is not of very high value, or the claim limit has been exceeded, and the « Bots » ignored your compensation request.

Send a message to Vinted to claim what you are owed, insist, insist, insist…
After a while, it’s possible that a « Human » will handle your request and refund you if the value of the item is less than the carrier’s compensation limit.
Good luck, because you’ll need it in this case.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I will insist with Vinted and try to contact the carrier.

Have a good day
