August sales slump

Hello everyone, are you also experiencing a dizzying drop in sales this month, and particularly in the last 10 days on Vinted? I post every day, I have few views, offers accepted that don’t lead to anything, even cancellations after purchase, in short, all of that, everything is negotiated with astronomical differences from the starting price,… Is it the back-to-school effect? I’m asking myself this question because I usually sell every week and I regularly have all sorts of brands,…

Hi, yes, like every year.

Hello, I’ve been selling professionally online since 2007, and this is my worst August. I’m going to make 20% less revenue than last year (which was my worst August before 2026!) even though I took 10 days of vacation and was closed for 10 days. And this year, I didn’t close in August.

that’s getting worse and worse :grimacing:

Yes, but you don’t have the right color or size…

The « Do you have that one in M? »

Apparently it’s the holidays, and that happens every year.

do you have the same for women? yes of course

To be seen at the end of the month for the 2026 vintage.

yes yes don’t worry I’m aware it’s the holidays I live in Corsica not on Mars  but I’ve been selling on Vinted since the beginning and yes there’s a lull at this time but this is not a lull it’s ghostly! Deserted! And the little that comes through is to ask for a 50% discount, it was worrying I was wondering if it was my account that was shadow-banned, not promoted, or if it was generally like that, that was my question for clarification

Near nothingness for me too. A small uptick last week. And then quiet again

While the first weeks of August showed a clear decrease, I am observing a rebound in sales. I now expect to finish August at the average of the previous 7 months. This is also thanks to sustained activity on LBC, where the holiday departure phenomenon does not seem to be playing as much of a role.

There were problems with the availability of drop-off points for Corsica. This may have also slowed down your sales.
Buyers do not necessarily contact sellers and simply go elsewhere as soon as they cannot find a drop-off point.
See the topic:

Normal for books… you have vacationers who only read during their holidays while tanning on the beach or by the campsite pool.
And, they might have planned before leaving…

True. I read more in the summer.

Same, 3 sales about ten days ago then nothing more

Yes, it was the case in July, a disaster. I lost some nice sales and of course, 3 weeks later, the buyers were no longer interested . The problem is solved, but Vinted remains very quiet. I hardly have any views on LBC at the moment. As for the new platform Opla, nothing has moved for months so far.

To truly compare 2 months from one year to the next, you’d need to have put the same number of new articles online, at the same price, with the same references. However, this is impossible for second-hand items.

I put 30-40% fewer items online in August than in July. I’ll see, but in the end, if I weight the revenue by this, I shouldn’t be much higher. We’ll see for August 2025/2026.

We can add external conditions: weather (a factor that influences consumption the most by far, well before economic conditions, which are stable no matter what anyone says), sales channels.

If you also make comparisons on small volumes, the analysis no longer really makes sense.

Yes, I have many more items than last year because I have more customers. I resell from clothing clear-outs, with prices ranging from fast fashion (minimum price) to premium or even luxury items. I find the visibility has greatly decreased; I post every day and I still make sales. It’s on LBC [Le Bon Coin] that I get more views, not necessarily purchases. Men’s items sell better on LBC, and I also post on the marketplace… Usually, this results in a few purchases per week across the different platforms, which is why I was worried about this unusual complete standstill. I’m offering back-to-school items in mid-season, and all the platforms are quiet… Well, things should pick up in September because it’s also the end of the month, and even though it’s usually a quiet month, this one is quieter than usual :upside_down_face:

After the heatwaves, yes, that could have played a role…

the fires, the gasoline, the storms…

The causes are 95% internal when something doesn’t work, but very, very, very few people can admit it and question themselves, hence the thousands of posts looking for external explanations, blaming everyone, and so on. It’s the same in ALL areas: school, work, sports, relationships, education.

This is where some succeed: where the 95% fail.

Without denying a certain relevance, therein lies the « economistic » view, namely that the individual has the means to get out of it if they are willing to make the effort.

In the « sociological » view, our choices are hardly our own given social constraints. Do we need to recall, with Bourdieu, the proportion of polytechnicians who are children of polytechnicians, despite the very difficult entrance exams put in place? Or, with Pinçon and others, emphasize the weight of financial and cultural inheritances?

Of the 3, there is 1 which is still the « motherfuckers who screw us over » who are responsible for this.
I’m not saying which one… huh
