Article delivered damaged, what should I do?

Hello,

I sold a small coat rack with a mirror on the back of the item, the item arrived at the buyer’s with the mirror broken, they have just sent me photos, how should I react?

Thank you for your help

Hello

I think Vinted will side with the buyer. It is the sender’s responsibility to ensure that fragile items arrive intact. I learned this. When I first started shipping crockery, I had 1 or 2 breakages. I immediately refunded them, and it taught me a lesson. The packaging must withstand being dropped from a 7th floor. Since then, I haven’t had any more problems. In principle, I put a box inside another box with plenty of padding, but not too tightly packed, so that there is some springiness in case of impact, and I no longer have any problems.

yes, I doubt it, I blame myself! in any case, thank you for your feedback mlamiche

Well, my answer will depend on the buyer’s behavior. Generally, it goes well, I use sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, thick Kraft paper to fill the void, or even double-box in case of really risky items. But when a delivery person decides to get rough with a package, you can’t fight it.

If the buyer remains courteous, I refund immediately. But it’s true that in the annual total, it’s a drop in the ocean, so I really don’t want to bother with it.
If the buyer acts tough and loud-mouthed, I let Vinted handle it. It already takes time, and they are so incompetent that they might even ask him to pay for the return shipping. But that’s really when the person is being rude. Generally, I finish the job by sending a final message saying, « If you had been courteous, I would have refunded you in 5 minutes without asking for a return. » Just a little personal pleasure in case of an unpleasant person, but fortunately, that remains very exceptional.

For now, he has only sent me photos of the item with the broken mirror. I expressed my dismay by asking him what he wanted us to do, and I am waiting for his reply….

The item remains functional; the mirror can be replaced by another mirror or any other design from the back of the item (a clip system like on photo frames).

Hello - In a case like this, I would refund (if the price is reasonable) and move on to something else to avoid ruining my life with endless discussions. Sometimes mental health is at stake, and too bad for the few euros. If the buyer is dishonest, they won’t be able to play this little game for long and will have to live with their conscience.
