Vinted Chronicles: When Questions Fly

Ah, the mysteries of Vinted!
There are those who buy with one click, without asking a single question, as if they had found the Holy Grail of second-hand fashion. And then… there are the others. These Sherlock Holmeses of online shopping, who bombard you with questions as if you were selling a limited edition Dior dress and not an H&M t-shirt for 8 euros.

« Is it true black or more of a faded black? And the cut, is it fitted or more loose-fit? Does the fabric itch? And do the seams hold up well? Can we have a photo in natural light, from the profile and also from the back? »…

You get into the game, thinking that so much effort will surely lead to a sale. But no! Most of the time, these endless conversations end with a classic: « Thanks, I’ll think about it. » And poof, they disappear into the vortex of virtual indecision.

And those who finally make a purchase? Get ready, that’s where the adventure begins. The product arrives and, despite your 15 photos and descriptions worthy of a novel, there’s always a « little detail » that’s not quite right: « The black isn’t black enough, » « I expected better for 7 euros, » « You can tell it’s second-hand. » Oh really? Surprising for a second-hand item.

The moral of the story? Sometimes, the less said, the better. The best customers are often those who click, pay, and move on. And you’re left with free time to finally drink your hot coffee.
Cheers! :shopping_bags:

Thank you for this beautiful and very true story! :ok_hand:
It’s clear that as soon as the question-and-answer game begins, we are almost certain not to sell… or perhaps we fall into reflections of several years before making a purchase.
But if I had to choose, I still prefer those who take 2 seconds longer to tell me « I’ll think about it » over those who disappear as they arrived… without even a thank you or goodbye.

Right now, I have someone who is still weighing the pros and cons, for 2 weeks now… she first asked me if the pants were really khaki, if they were really size 40, if they fit true to size… then 2 days later, if they had no stains, if they were really « slim » but if they were still stretchy… then a few days ago to share her fear of not fitting into them…
I should mention that these are Kiabi pants sold for €4, for which I have put almost 20 detailed photos and a 10-line description.

Hello. Ahahah, I totally see

Finally, wouldn’t the advice be not to sell beyond 2 questions?

Clearly!

I’ve never sold an item to someone who asks for measurements! :smiling_face_with_tear:

more seriously! it’s EVERY time, at least for me. yesterday again: a NEW nike shorts, absolutely impeccable so, : is there underwear in it? is it short? is it stretchy? do you have a worn photo. I don’t even know why I answered. radio silence. now after 2 questions I’m blocking. enough. the crazy sale shoppers will find a hobby elsewhere

Yes, indeed, that could be good advice for improving mental health
Personally, I’m eternally positive and always hopeful… as the saying goes, you never know… a misunderstanding could lead to a conclusion

I apply the same reasoning as you, but on Tinder :joy: :innocent:

I almost want to connect a ChatGPT-4o to the Vinted conversation:

You are a conversational agent specialized in sales on Vinted. Your goal is to close sales quickly while providing a pleasant and reassuring customer experience. You must answer all buyer questions accurately, transparently, and kindly, without ever lying.

Your tone should be courteous, patient, and encouraging, without ever showing impatience. You must highlight the qualities of the garment (condition, brand, cut, material, competitive price, rarity, etc.) and respond to objections by reassuring the buyer.

If the buyer hesitates, offer them a small commercial gesture (slight discount or bundle with another item). Adapt to their behavior: if they seem interested but hesitant, highlight the benefits of immediate purchase (exclusivity, fast shipping, attractive price).

Finally, be proactive by gently following up with a buyer who no longer responds after an advanced discussion, always with a friendly and non-insistent approach. Your ultimate goal is to encourage the buyer to complete the transaction as quickly as possible, while maintaining the seller’s good reputation.

It’s been a long time since I’ve answered questions, with 2000 items it’s clearly a waste of time and 9 times out of 10 there will be no purchases.

I give in from time to time when the item is quite expensive but I quickly regret it when I don’t even get a thank you :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

They are the ones who negotiate as if their lives depended on it, then when you finally accept their offer, they start their questions:

  • kids jacket: are there pockets on the kids jacket? I answer yes: 2 pockets (one on each side to be precise ) and no purchase, apparently having pockets is a problem
  • adult jacket: does the jacket run large or small? It’s very subjective, so check the measurements (which are already in the listing :face_with_spiral_eyes:), but no purchase either, even though she had asked me to reserve it because she was definitely buying it the next day
  • 12-year-old pants: request for photos worn… sorry, they are too small, my children have grown… that’s why I’m selling them
  • and when the item can be photographed on my mannequin: request for photos worn… on a human, which I don’t do, since 100% never follow up anyway… and I have my coffee waiting

so true… I just noticed it again and again.. over 2 days, a dozen « conversations »… ALL useless, no sales. it’s just social, women need to talk, non-stop, it’s just another channel for them… pathetic and exasperating

The latest one, this very evening: a running t-shirt. Can you give me the belly width?
yes yes yes all that all that
and the perimeter width on the sun’s axis, are you interested in that otherwise? I’m asking

It’s almost a universal rule, it’s the ones who ask the most questions, ask for extra photos, and negotiate who will be a pain in the neck later.

Even when selling new items, they manage to be unsatisfied :joy:

Absolutely, I still have new stock that I’m selling at a used price, and it generates EVEN MORE questions, it’s driving me crazy! People have no idea about value/prices anymore. They buy 20 euro mops and then bother you with a new, branded product…

Speaking of which, yesterday, I received a message about a pair of pants, asking if it was possible to see them worn…
Except it’s a pair of women’s pants that I picked up (I don’t remember where).
