Frustrating: buyers who do not follow up on their offer

Hello everyone,

I wanted to vent about buyers who make you an offer, which you accept, and then they don’t follow through. This happens to me too often, and this kind of abuse makes sellers look like idiots waiting for payment (which never comes).

Should I chase them up? I’ve already tried, they don’t even respond. And when you see the little « seen » on the sales conversation or that they’ve logged into their profile in the meantime, it’s even more annoying.

What’s the point of doing that? A new trend? A way to have fun??

It wouldn’t even occur to me to do that to others. I really don’t understand…

Hello, maybe they made 4-5 offers to 4-5 sellers, and the first one who responds or the one they want, they buy from, and the others, like you, well, they’re already forgotten.

That’s why I don’t put too much importance on it anymore. Someone makes an offer, I accept or not, then I delete the conversation and that’s it. If it was a real buyer, they’ll come back, otherwise, no big deal.

The problem is that it’s recurring. And regarding the latest misdeed, it’s a rare item. I’m the only one who has it. So since the accepted price is now visible to all buyers, I deleted the listing and reposted it at the initial price.

I don’t think I’ll respond to offers anymore, especially since some are really outrageous.

Then you can act like an e-commerce pro, a rare item with demand, so you could remind them, like you accepted the offer, so tell them: exceptional item, rare, sought-after, that you have many requests currently, so don’t delay.

Don’t waste energy stressing about this and accept that a sale is only truly made once validated after receipt. Otherwise, it’s a way to drive yourself crazy on Vinted.

It’s business  the choice is so wide that they found better elsewhere or simply that they were in « tourist » mode. nothing lost then: they are just prospects, not really buyers. I do it very often myself as a buyer

I agree with you: sometimes you shouldn’t try too hard to understand…

Hello, I can understand this frustration but hey… you can also block the inconsiderate person. It must have happened to me once to make an offer and not follow up due to lack of time. I bought the item a few weeks later at full price. Too bad for me. For my part, I find that buyers are taking their time, no sales for a good 3 weeks. I don’t do sales, so we’ll see how things pick up again this weekend and early next week. Have a nice day!

I completely agree, buyers tell me the same thing.

Hello
A bit of a late post… but still a relevant topic… unfortunately
I agree with you that it’s annoying or at least irritating
If the offer is not followed by a purchase within a few days, I make a counter-offer by returning to the original price… which cancels the previously accepted offer
And also, for your information, the price granted to a buyer is only visible and valid for that buyer, not for others
Good continuation

Hello, I’m not the most experienced, but if you want to share the link to your shop, we’ll take a look. No sales in 3 weeks, something’s wrong. My sales have dropped like everyone else’s, I think, but I still made 80 sales (half of December) in January, and now for the past 2-3 days, it’s picking up again.

Well spotted with the counter-offer, I hadn’t thought of that..! I’m off right now to counter-offer a whole bunch of little savages

For me, it collapsed quite a bit. But I expected it given my sector (toys).
Strangely, eBay didn’t collapse that much where I’m only making 30% less than in December, which was also my best month ever on that platform. Quite happy for eBay. LBC also wasn’t catastrophic. But Vinted for the past 14 days has been miserable.

My eBay is completely dead, I can’t select multiple shipping options, it’s not working.. nothing to do.

It’s no longer the eBay of yesteryear, but since September, it’s been improving as far as I’m concerned. And I have things that sell well on eBay while on Vinted, nothing. For example, I have a game sold several times for €75, whereas the best offer on Vinted was €40. Also, a figurine sold 4 times since December for €90, while for €70 on Vinted, not a single offer.

For shipping, I don’t overcomplicate things, I offer free shipping with Mondial Relay and a €4 surcharge for international shipping (for countries within this shipping cost budget), but I’ve only just launched international shipping, it’s a hassle to set up.

I confirm. I was a « big » seller on eBay a long time ago (I was making 90k per year just on eBay back then, expensive items that sold well, at the right price. Now traffic/visibility has really really dropped off, EVEN when sponsoring listings)

In absolute terms, everything is collapsing right now, and too many people want Noz/Shein in absolute terms.

Afterward, I’ve never been in those spheres on eBay (I’m still new to the activity), but it was so easy to sell on there. Things sold quickly, no small talk, good prices…

absolutely. I’ve been an eBay member for almost 20 years now. And yes, I know… anyway, I’ve sold pretty much everything. Drones, Lobb and Weston models for 300/400 euros, collector’s posters (signed limited edition Munich Olympics sold for 3500 euros, a gift from my ex…) and today, at least in Europe, it’s not the same business at all. On the other hand, it’s a VERY good spot to find products to resell, even if they are in the US. I have a few wholesalers who are on eBay and have great stuff all year round.

And you understand import fees?
That’s something I need to look into

Afterwards, I haven’t even finished recording what I got during the sales (from suppliers or in stores), I open boxes, I grab items and I tell myself « oh, I got this? ».
