Ebay - Change on September 1, 2026

Hey, by the way
Can you tell me if I understood correctly?
Specifically, Ebay wants to attract individuals by copying Vinted on fees, and by « inflicting » protection fees on buyers. (so they replace the commissions)

However, for Pro accounts?
Does it align?
I couldn’t see if for Pros, they continue the fees as Commissions.

No, because if that’s the case, we’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of having a Pro account with them
Like we can do on LBC

For the moment, the only change indicated concerns the payment of funds, which will no longer be automated but will be available in your wallet. … just like on Vinted. Okay, personally, it doesn’t change much for me, even though I appreciated the regular flow into my bank account without having to worry about it.

Now, we will indeed have to see if this is sustainable because it creates a distortion of competition with individuals who are the big winners for now. After that, I doubt that individuals will all change their prices immediately, so we’ll have to see the impact. And besides, you have to get them back first. I think we’re likely to see a lot of professionals showing up with private accounts. But historically, professionals have always been a major driver for eBay (who quickly understood that individuals represented a glass ceiling), so I hope they are taking their transformation step by step and that there will be adjustments. Moreover, I would welcome the switch to buyer protection instead of fees, because then it’s outside our turnover as it’s a service purchased from the platform by the customer, and therefore no more contributions to pay on that part.

One of eBay’s weaknesses is that it’s not designed for starting out; you need to be at least somewhat structured and quickly generate revenue. With the fees, I think that below €1000 in monthly revenue it’s not viable. Because the smaller you are, the more expensive eBay actually is. Paying €40 is a lot of money when you only make a few hundred euros. When you exceed €1000, between the reduction in fees and the reduction in shipping costs, it starts to pay for itself and becomes less and less of a burden. For me, it’s now painless; the reductions offset its cost, or even make it profitable. I think they have something to work on here to attract the small Vinted sellers who earn a supplementary income. We must admit that Vinted, with its absence of direct fees and its simplicity for shipping, has an undeniable advantage for getting started.

Compared to LBC, be careful, the conditions are not the same. Moreover, I know very few professionals who are professionals on it. Their offer is out of touch, in addition to being unclear. I really don’t see how they can attract Vinted’s professional segment with this.

Is eBay’s visibility algorithm fairer than Vinted’s?

I worked for years professionally on eBay before quitting. From my own experience, eBay is interesting depending on what you want to sell… I used to sell rock band t-shirts, that was before all the Asian countries bought up all the originals and made millions of copies… lol

eBay is global, I used to post my listings in English. If you sell a product that is very specific to the French market, it can be complicated, and you have to pass on your shipping costs to the buyer… that can quickly scare them off…

Example: you sell sneakers, a 2 kg shipment costs roughly €50 to the USA…

Yes, it works with keywords, and you don’t need to repost to refresh the listing.
Your listing is also automatically refreshed every 30 days.
Therefore, buyers find listings that match their searches, not just the ones that have just been published.

And then there are quite a few search filters that still allow you to really narrow down a search.

Which can be very useful, like « successful sales », even if it’s less relevant today given that there are many fewer transactions than before.
