Hello, there is no insurance on Vinted for international sales. I never sell beyond the carrier’s liability limit (see the list of carriers). Especially if it’s for Italy. If it’s a luxury item in France, you need to use the Vinted verification service paid for by the buyer. So it’s almost impossible to do. In short, Vinted is not made for high-end, luxury, or antique items.
I don’t quite understand your question. Let’s remove « quasiment ». Vinted’s verification service with insurance up to €500 only works for a few brands and only in France. It must be paid for and chosen by the buyer at the time of purchase. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hello, a carrier’s refund is for loss or theft (which is rare), but for breakage it’s very complicated for them to reimburse you, so frankly, forget about insurance. Let me explain: you are reimbursed for breakage if the package was refused by the customer and/or if it was opened on the spot in front of the delivery person and reported to the delivery person. In other words, you have little chance of being reimbursed in case of breakage.
So if the package is very well packed and the items are broken, I am not reimbursed?
However, the commercial code stipulates that the carrier is presumed responsible for damage incurred during transport as well as for loss, except in cases of force majeure (Article L. 133-3 of the commercial code).
As stated, the carrier’s liability is limited. Furthermore, it must be proven by you. And if by chance you succeed, it is therefore limited to SDR (it is a kind of currency). You will be reimbursed a few euros per kilo. As everyone advised you, forget about it on Vinted.
If you are not a merchant, the commercial code does not apply. Furthermore, international conventions limit the carrier’s liability. One must be careful when searching the internet; law is like medicine. Complicated.
The carrier will tell you it’s your fault the package isn’t well protected. What you need to do is protect it well, not rely on insurance. Newspaper, bubble wrap, air cushions, you have to protect it as if your package were a soccer ball, it’s exaggerated but necessary. I sell antiques outside of Vinted, of course, so vases, statuettes, dishes, and so on. I have very few breakages, but I insist on protection. For example, a 2kg package with protection weighs 4kg.
I use Happy Post for international shipping. Once, I filed an insurance claim because the customer sent me photos of the package in a pitiful state before opening the box, which worked in my favor. For a sale of €150, I fully refunded the customer and was reimbursed €106 by Happy Post, without additional insurance, just the basic insurance per kilo, for my package which I believe weighed 9kg.
